We had a great week at Camp Tifie. Combined the boys earned over 50 merit badges; with a little work we will be able to get the total to over 60.
So here the week in re-cap:
Saturday the 7th through Saturday the 14th of July:
Saturday 7th: Leaders Vince Hunt, Tim De Graw, and John Hoschouer took a 4 hour shopping trip at Macey's to purchase all of the food for the week.
Sunday 8th: Final precamp meeting to review packing list, meeting time/location, and scout uniform.
Monday 9th: Scouts met at Brother De Graws house at 6am, after loading the final items and offering a prayer everyone loaded into the vehicles and off we went. Once at camp we checked in, took a tour, confirmed schedules for each boy, set up camp, attended a flag ceremony, and opening fire side with skits by the staff. Camp Director Craig came to our camp and taught the boys a counting game, which would be great for a Family Home Evening Activity, see how high your family can get (our troop got to 28)
Tuesday 10th: All boys started working on their merit badges and we started working on our troop Cheer: "TROUP 1513, (SQUACKING LIKE A SAGE GROUSE), (GRAWLING LIKE A GRISSLY). The evening campfire was performed by Craig the Camp Director who told many stories, including the story of his ancestors bringing a big wooden box across the plains which included everything they owned- while the box was big and during the journey may have seemed huge at times, in reality when they arrived in Utah and emptied their box it was realized how few of positions they truly had. Each boy was encouraged to fill their "Box" while at camp. The other story that stood out to our troop was about Troop 907 attending Camp Maple Dell many years ago and how a troop from Salt Lake destroyed 907's flag and carved wood plaque which had been in the troop for decades. The boys in Craig's troop wanted to do something for 907 so they sacrificed their money and treats for the rest of the week to start a fund to help replace 907's Troop flag, showing the essence of Scout Spirit.
Wednesday 11th: Our Troop cheer was performed at the morning commissioner flag ceremony with the addition of "SQUIRL, ohh its just a Rottweiler" (Rottweiler was the word of the day), which won us the Spirit stick, which we added a piece of wood with 907 carved into it to help us remember what it means to be a scout.
Thursday 12th: We changed our cheer for "SQUIRL..." to finding a caterpillar which we all enjoyed eating. During the evening we preformed our troop skit where one boy was forced to sleep outside of a pretend tent while the another slept inside the tent, upon falling asleep a pack of wild bees (the rest of the troop) attached the boy outside of the tent, who once again begged to come into the tent, after the second bee attack the boys switched places, however when the bee's returned they felt bad for picking on the boy outside of the tent and decided to attack the (same boy) inside the tent.
Friday 13th: The boys posted the colors for our commissioner flag ceremony, spent the morning finishing their Merit Badge requirements, built a cardboard/duck tape boat, and helped the leaders clean the bathroom. At 4pm Kyle and Spencer raced our boat, and then tried to swamp the other boy’s boat. A few of the parents made it up for parent night and saw the boys win the Baden Powell Award for their accomplishments at camp, as well as the Flying Dutchman Award for fastest time in the boat race. We also had our first soaking rain storm of the week, so prior to bed while all crammed under the pavilion hunkered around Brother Hunt's "Volcano" we enjoyed Hot Chocolate and told stories.
Saturday 14th: We awoke early enjoyed cold cereal and broke camp down. By 9am we had all gear packed and had searched the camp for any garbage (Troop 1513 always leaves our camp sites better then when we found them) and started our journey home. Once home everyone helped clean the coolers and organize the scout trailer so it will be ready for our next trip.
Now for what you have all been waiting for, the pictures:
